How to Give a Great Head Massage
A scalp and head massage can be just the
thing that you need if you're stressed out from work or family
life. When many people think about getting massages to help
them release stress, many people instantly think about neck and
back massages. But getting stimulation to the scalp and head
can be a great way to help relieve stress.
Before starting the massage, you should set
the mood in the room. You can do this by dimming the lights,
and by lighting scented candles. Have the person sit
upright in a chair so you can easily reach all areas of their
head. If the person is laying down, it's hard to reach all the
surfaces of the head, which limits the effectiveness of your
massage.
To start with mainly just use your fingertips and start
at the base of the skull and slowly move in small circles up
over the scalp and towards the face. Be sure to avoid
the fact though unless the person specifically requests this
because it is a sensitive area. However some people do choose
to massage the cheek area as many people tense to tense their
jaws when stressed out.
You may also want to massage the upper neck area as
well as some people may be carrying a lot of tension
and stress here as well. Since the head is a more
sensitive area then the rest of the body you want to make sure
you move slowly and gentle. Hard abrupt movements will
make the massage very unpleasant.
Once you have covered all of the scalp area you may
want to massage the lower neck and shoulder area as
well to give a complete upper body massage.
After you are done be sure to ask the person for feedback on
how you did so you can perfect your technique.
